Lara Galinsky of Echoing Green answers listener questions about creating meaningful careers. Britt Bravo hosts the show.

At the moment, I am open to a myriad of career opportunities, but am most passionate about the arts, social media, and urban development. Is it better
to accept an unpaid internship in the areas I am most passionate about or a paid internship or job in an area that interests me, but is only moderately related to what I want to do in the future?

I have been a veterinarian for the past 20 years, and it is time to make a change. I feel burnt out and realize the job actually does not suit me very
well. However because this profession is so specialized, I am not quite sure how to go about a radical career change. My passions involve recycling
materials (salvaging, etc), gardening, landscaping, and alternative building. However I have no real skills in these areas, and I am not sure where to
begin. Further, I am not clear how one would launch a career, say, in permaculture, if I were to go through a certification program. I’m a very
hand’s-on kind of person and want to be involved with work that is positive, creative, practical, and attracts other like-minded people.  It may be worth mentioning I am from New Zealand and based currently in the UK.
